First you must ask what are Trace minerals and;
- Do I need them?
- If so, am I getting enough of them?
- What are the quality sources?
To answer the first question, Trace Minerals are the source of much controversy as to which ones we need and how much. The major reason for this controversy is Genetic Variation. Every single person absorbs minerals differently. If the Body requires less then 100 milligrams daily of a particular mineral, it is labled a trace mineral. Minerals are inorganic elements and compounds that your body must have to function and must be consumed in order to be used. Vitamins on the other side are organic compounds which the body not only needs, but many can be produced by the body itself. Vitamins and Minerals combine within the body to become enzymatic proteins. Enzymes are the functional workhorses of the body.
If you ever get sick or come down with bouts of acne or fatigue from time to time, you are not getting enough of various trace minerals the body requires to produce the enzymes the body needs to function. Because so little is used, the body can become very sick when there is a deficiency. If all you consume is processed food, the liklihood of developing a deficiency is very high. Also if you consume high amounts of sugar, you are changing the way your body uses and absorbs these minerals.
